Ernest Khachaturyan
Counsel, Attorney
Ernest specializes in resolving complex commercial and corporate disputes. He has extensive experience handling cases in state courts and arbitration tribunals, where he represents the interests of both local and international clients. Ernest advises clients on litigation strategy, case structuring, and risk assessment. In addition, he provides a full range of services in the field of corporate insolvency (bankruptcy), participating in all statutory insolvency proceedings, as well as in the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in the territory of Uzbekistan.
Selected Experience
Ernest advised:
a leading German agribusiness company in arbitration proceedings before an international arbitral institution against an Uzbek agricultural company, as well as in the subsequent recognition and enforcement of the award in Uzbekistan. He provided full-cycle support throughout the dispute: from initiation of proceedings to recognition of the foreign arbitral award in accordance with the New York Convention, and further assistance during enforcement proceedings, including asset tracing and monitoring auctions for the sale of seized assets;
a leading German agribusiness company in a dispute concerning the unlawful distribution of funds by a state enforcement authority in the course of enforcing an international arbitral award, successfully obtaining a court decision declaring the actions of the state authority unlawful;
one of the largest agro-industrial and textile clusters in Uzbekistan (wholly owned by a foreign investor) in developing a litigation strategy and representing its interests in a damages claim arising from the breach of the Sardoba Reservoir dam in 2020. Despite the case being reviewed by several judicial instances and the active defence of the respondent (one of the largest state-owned companies in Uzbekistan), he secured and upheld a judgment awarding damages in favour of the client at all levels of appeal;
