The 18th Russia sanctions package adopted by the European Union is one of the most large-scale and comprehensive sanctions packages over the entire period of the conflict so far. It includes tough energy, financial and trade measures aimed at weakening the Russian Federation's economic and military potential, as well as introduces new legal tools to protect the EU Member States from foreign arbitration awards and court judgments.
VERBA LEGAL's Sanctions Practice comprising Managing Partner Tatyana Neveeva, Counsel Marat Samarskiy, and Associates Tatiana Zelenovskaia and Yulia Koroleva prepared a special alert to describe the new sanctions package.
In the Alert, the experts provided an overview of the key restrictions imposed by the new sanctions package, analyzed its impact upon the energy sector, financial institutions and the defense industry, and, also, paid attention to new mechanisms of legal protection of the EU Member States from international arbitration proceedings.
